Using song to teach modal verbs
This is my first upload to dtube and I hope that the steemit community will be graceful to my first upload in this great platform of dtube.
This is an educational resource that I created many years ago to help young children to remember the 7 modal auxiliary verbs.
I had also inserted auxiliary verbs of ‘Did, do and does’ that function quite similarly within a sentence.
I have decided to remove it from youtube and park it under dtube instead.
I am a strong believer that children learn best when they are having fun.
With this simple song, I was able to get my pupils to remember the 7 modal auxiliary verbs very quickly.
I used to get my pupils to repeat over and over again like chanting but they soon forgot what they had learnt.
With this simple song, I was able to get them to sing it again after many months later when they encountered this grammar item again. They were able to know they need to use simple base form of verb that is really important when they need to do individual writing.
With a catchy tune of ‘this old man’ that they are familiar with it, they were able to have awareness of the 7 modal auxiliary verbs as well as ‘did, do and does’ very quickly.
My pupils sang this song for fun as it has a catchy tune to it. Intentionally added ‘Did, Do and does’ to make it a really fun song to sing.
My voice and music quality may not necessary be high quality but it served my teaching need of having fun as well as to commit these concept into their permanent memory within the shortest time.
Music is really a great tool to be used to teach children new things as well as remember them effectively.

It is very funny how our brains work. They really want to learn, we just have to figure it out, how to switch them on. It is really nice to see your commitment to teach. You chose perfect nickname for yourself, fun2learn 👍🏻. Greetings from Slovenia 👋🏻
Thanks for listening as well as your support!
oh yes the power of music, it has a special way of sticking in our minds more than just spoken words, if i need to remember what shopping to get for my mrs i will make a little rhyme in my head on the way to the shops, works every time :)
Thanks for dropping by to give me the support!
It's so cool to see educational posts starting to crop up around Steemit!
Thank you for passing by my post!
That's awesome, i see that you are using the teamsingapore tag, are you from singapore? If so, do they subscribe to teaching grammar in isolation?
Yup! I am from Singapore as well as in the teamsingapore discord. Most of the time, English items are being taught after reading a story. It is based on different themes. From the story, children learn about grammer items, sentence structures as well as different vocabulary words.
