Develop Learning Intention

For teachers, learning intention is simply the objectives to achieve at the end of the lessons.

In the perspective of our children, they may not even have intention to learn so there is no objective to learning except to get over the daily boring lessons.

With technological advancement, they often lack the concentration and patience to listen attentively in class.

Even if they look like they are listening, their minds are somewhere else.

We need to develop the intention to learn leading to achieving our learning intention as teachers and parents.

Purpose of Learning

As parents and teachers, we often do not discuss with our children why they need to attend school.

We simply let nature take its course and tell them that it is important that they study hard in school.

Our children may treat what we say as background noise since we do not go deep into conversation about why they should study hard.

Some teenagers who may have a part-time job may find it more rewarding to earn the extra cash with their time than to spend time sitting passively in a classroom with their teachers giving lectures.

The immediate use of money through part-time job provides extrinsic motivation while sitting in a classroom does not provide extrinsic or intrinsic motivation.

Learning to have an enriched mind can provide more future opportunities when they are adults. Gaining knowledge is priceless and it can lead to better future prospects.

Schools also aim to provide the life skills needed to cope with 21^st Century future job requirements.

Parents and teachers would need to lead and guide them to see the benefits of learning.

Problem-Based Learning Experience

In our lives, we are solving problems regularly as adults.

Our children may face more challenging problems in future and we must equip them with the needed cognitive capacity to cope with those challenges through problem-based learning experience in schools.

With the awareness of the need to prepare our children for the future, most teachers have tried to craft their lessons to incorporate those essential skills to problem solving in non-routine real-life situations.

Through collective effort, many students were able to gain practical use of what they learn in schools to apply to the problems given to them.

They must learn how to apply their knowledge in a flexible way as problems do not always present themselves the same way.

In Conclusion

Learning intention must be purposeful and intentional with careful planning. We should not leave learning to chances but we must craft the learning experience to enrich the minds of the young ones.

Schools become a vibrant learning environment where knowledge is the key to cope with an unpredictable future world.

Learning to unlearn and relearn what they have learnt today and learn it differently can be crucial to cope with future demands.
