1965 के अगस्त मास में पाकिस्तानियों। कश्मीर में
ने
पाकमुजाहिद भेज कर छेड़छाड़ शुरू कर दी परन्तु प्रधानमंत्री
ने 15 अगस्त को लाल किले पर झंडा फहरा कर पाकिस्तान ।
तथा
उसके मददगार देशों को कड़कती आवाज में चेतावनी देते हुए
स्पष्ट शब्दों में कह दिया - “आज का भारत दो साल पहले का
भारत नहीं है। यदि कोई हमारे देश पर आक्रमण करेगा तो मुंह
की खानी पड़ेगी । हम शान्तिप्रिय हैं परन्तु ईंट का जवाब पत्थर।
से देंगे । देश पर आपत्ति आने पर हम अपना सब कुछ न्यौछावर
कर देंगे । हमें अपने अस्तित्व से देश प्यारा है इसलिये दुनिया
कान खोल कर सुन ले कि हम रहें या न रहें यह झंडा और
हिन्दुस्तान अवश्य रहेगा ।’’ शास्त्री जी की वीरतापूर्ण चेतावनी
ने भारतवासियों के शरीर में जान डाल दी । देश का बच्चा-बच्चा
आक्रमणकारियों का मुकाबला करने के लिए तैयार हो गया । देश
की सेना सतर्क हो गई । पहले ही जवाबी आक्रमण में भारतीय
सेनाओं ने पाकिस्तानी सेनाओं को खदेड़ कर रख दिया । जब
पाकिस्तान की प्रत्येक मोर्चे पर पराजय होने लगी तो पश्चिमी देशों
ने भारत पर दबाव डालने के लिए आर्थिक तथा खाद्य संबंधी
सहायता बन्द कर दी । चीन ने भेड़ों के चुराने का बहाना लेकर
भारत पर आक्रमण करने की धमकी दी । परन्तु भारत के उस
बहादुर सपूत ने चीन को ललकारते हुए कहा ‘वह समय चला
गया जब चीन ने सोते भारत पर आक्रमण करके आ दबाया था ।
आज सारा देश जाग्रत हो चुका है हम चीन तथा पाकिस्तान का
एक साथ मुकाबला करने को तैयार हैं ।’ उन्होंने पश्चिमी देशों से
के अनुचित दबाव का खंडन करते हुए कहा ‘पश्चिमी देश आज
हमारी विवशता का लाभ उठाना चाहते हैं परन्तु हम विदेशों से
भीख माँगने की अपेक्षा भूखा मरना स्वीकार करेंगे । भारत रूबल,
पौण्ड, फ्रैंक और डालर की धौंस नहीं मानता वह अपने दम पर
लड़ाई लड़ेंगे ।'' शास्त्री जी के दिलेराना जवाब पर दुनिया दंग
रह गई । दुनिया के समाचार पत्रों ने नेहरू के उत्तराधिकारी श्री
शास्त्री जी को भारत का चर्चिल और नेहरू को चेम्बरलेन कह
कर याद किया । भारत के सेनानियों ने अमरीका के पैटन टैंकों
की धज्जी उड़ा कर रख दी । सैकड़ों मील पाकिस्तानी क्षेत्र पर
कब्जा करके भारतीय जवानों ने लाहौर का दरवाजा खटखटा
दिया । जब पाकिस्तान और उसके समर्थक देशों ने पाकिस्तान
का अस्तित्व समाप्त होते देखा तो समझौते की भीख माँगने लगे ।
युद्धबंदी के तुरन्त पश्चात रूस के प्रधानमंत्री श्री कोसीगिन
ने पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति मुहम्मद अयूब खाँ और भारत के
प्रधानमंत्री श्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री को समझौते के लिए ताशकंद
बुलाया । जब पाकिस्तानी राष्ट्रपति ने युद्ध का प्रायश्चित करके
सदा के लिये युद्ध न करने और मित्र देशों की तरह रहने का संकल्प
किया तो शास्त्री जी ने यह कह कर जीता हुआ क्षेत्र वापिस कर
दिया कि हमें क्षेत्र नहीं शान्ति चाहिए । हमने शान्ति के लिये लड़ाई
लड़ी और शान्ति प्राप्त करने पर बन्द कर दी है । कछ भी हो
शास्त्री जी ने दुनियाँ को यह बता दिया कि बहादुर दानवीर होता
है वह लड़ के देश को भी है और
किसी जीत सकता जीते हुए
देश को भीख माँगने पर वापिस भी लौटा सकता है । आज दुनियाँ ।
भारत के उस राष्ट्रनायक को लाल बहादुर शास्त्री के नाम से याद
करती है ।
