Weed (and not the good kind)
Got a big surprise when I went to the front yard 2 days ago. One huge weed had taken over. No idea how this thing grew so fast. It wasn't there or was small enough not to be noticed just a week ago. It was just starting to get some flowers on it so I left it until today. Got some pics of the flowers and the weed.
Since it was flowering it was time to get it the heck out of there before it went to seed. There were 4 big stocks. Cut it down and into small pieces for the garbage. It filled up the whole can.
So much for that hope for a big bag of weed from my younger days.... Guess I should have been more specific in that wish. All I got out of it was being itchy.
Compost it then mulch your garden with it. Thanks mr weed.
Around here they call that poke salad, and there's some sort of multiple steps of boiling, pouring off the water and boiling again-- an edible plant if one dares. I've never dared, and since the internet came along I've read that when the plants are very young that they are non-toxic, so that the boiling isn't needed, and they aren't as poisonous as the folklore described. I still haven't dared. If you had let it mature those flowers would become bunches of messy purple berries. The birds like them, but I'm pretty sure they are poison to humans. Anyway, that's about all I know about your weed, I never tried smoking any poke salad either, like you said, wrong weed for that!
