A year on Steemit!

in #undefined5 years ago

It's been a little over a year since I joined Steemit, so I figured it was a good time to have a look back and share some thoughts.

My main reason for being on social media is music and electronics-related projects, both to share my own, and to find cool stuff from others. To that end, I would say this has been a beneficial effort. I came in without many expectations, although I must admit I've been surprised by some of what I found. I guess part of this is probably due to the fact that I tend to live in my own little world, and I don't really pay attention to what's "cool" these days. What I'm getting at is that I was pleasantly surprised to find an electronic music "scene" of sorts here. Of particular note in this regard are two groups that have helped me both find new music and promote my own: Nothing But Dirt Records (@nothingbutdirt) and Atom Collector Records (@atomcollector). The former is focused on electronic music on Steemit, while the latter is more of an anything-goes affair in terms of both genres and platforms. Due to the broad nature of ACR, I've come across some stuff I almost certainly wouldn't have heard otherwise that I really like.

As far as my own stuff, the response has been decent, thanks in large part to the groups mentioned above. I still won't be quitting my day job anytime soon, but I'm well aware that my stuff doesn't exactly have mass appeal. Considering the niche audience I tend to attract, I think I've done pretty well here. I've also been motivated to do some stuff I probably wouldn't have otherwise, such as the "noise session" performances (which I need to get back to), and the "Church of Industrial Music" articles. All in all, I would say that Steemit has been one of the best things for my music/audio "career" in a long time. Definitely more beneficial than facebook.

All in all, I'm glad that I came, and I plan to stick around. Thanks to @amphlux for getting me interested in the first place, and helping me out with some early tips & stuff. Thanks also to @toddjsmith1979 and @atomcollector for early help and continued support here.

If you're new to Steemit yourself, check out @steembasicincome, and if you're into music/audio, also check out @dsound.

I guess that's it, here's to another year!
