Doing a Following Spring Clean

in #steemit8 years ago

Lately, I've seen my followers increase (THANK YOU) and my votes decrease. It doesn't really make sense to me. Why would more people follow me and fewer people vote? If you know the answer or just want to take a guess, please let me know in the comments.

Doing a spring clean

I'm so very grateful for the community I've come to know here on Steemit, most of you are encouraging, inspiring, thought-provoking people whom I have the greatest respect for.

I have however noticed, that the people I enjoy the most stopped posting - or that was what I thought! It turns out when I went to their profiles that they had kept posting faithfully, I just hadn't seen it. So after I stumbled upon a post by someone on here, I forget who, about cleaning up the list of people he follows, I thought I would do the same.

I more than halved the people I followed and at least 90% of the people I unfollowed hadn't posted for months on end. I'm not sure why it still cluttered up my feed when they weren't posting, but now I see posts from people I want to read and vote on all the time in my feed.

You should try it!

I want to encourage you to do a quick spring clean yourself. Even if you follow a ton of people it can be done effectively and fast by going alphabetically. Do one letter a day and you'll be done in less than a month! Or do a couple of mega batches and just get it over with. I promise you will like the results if they are like the ones I've experienced.

Please let me know if you do the spring clean and what results you see from it.

I have done the same thing on a couple of occasions. It helps me manage the consumption of the content that is most meaningful to me.

It is hard to "let go" but it is important that we stay focused on things that make the biggest difference in our lives so that we can make the biggest difference in other peoples' lives.

Wise words and my reason exactly. I tend to do something like this on every social media whenever I feel a bit frustrated with it. It's usually a sign that the value I used to gain and be able to share has become diffused.

I have thought about this some, not sure if I will be doing it though..... Well at least not right now!

May I ask why not?

I don't feel like my feed is cluttered up and it doesn't take me too long to get caught up. I have in the past stopped following a few people when I found that I was not looking at their posts.

Then it makes perfect sense not too.

I have been going through all the people I follow as well today.

Your's is the second post I have now seen on the same topic.

It is so very sad to how many great homesteaders and preppers especially have gone quiet on the platform.

Hopefully they will be back soon.

Yes! It seems like there was a wave of us coming to the platform when I got here but so many of them never really got started or left fairly quickly. I wonder why? The promise of making 'money'? The time commitment? The learning curve? Would be interesting to know why people left.

I finished my 'spring clean' the other day.

Unfortunately there were a large number who had gone inactive - hopefully they will be coming back soon...

There's always hope.

Good to see you back @frugallady - hope all goes well.

Yep. Feeling well rested after a two-week vacation and taking steps towards building my ministry and my thesis.

I have cleaned the list of the people I followed on occasion, and it has usually been for the better. But there is something else that I noticed: for some reason, some of the people I followed, and intend on following (including you) suddenly I'm not following any more. How could this be? First of all, it hasn't been for at least a few months that I performed such a cleaning. Secondly, there were several people I had started following only within the last weeks, that suddenly I wasn't following any more. I would click on their names, and get the option to follow or mute. And I was certain I was following them! If people want to un-follow me, that's up to them. But why do I keep losing people I actually want to follow?

This happened JUST RIGHT NOW! I clicked on your follow button TWICE today, within an hour! This can't be you, and it wasn't me, so it must be a software issue. Something's not right here...

Odd! It certainly wasn't me. I think I've had that happen as well but I'm not sure.
