FREEDOM?
First, Happy Memorial Day and to those who paid and are paying a large price for our freedom, we remember you and thank you! Maybe one day we will banish war and we will all learn to live in peace. But, I suspect for that to happen we will first have to learn how to get along here at home peacefully.
We may be free from the influences/forces of other countries, but how can we call ourselves a free nation when we have more laws and regulations than any other country in the world?
"No one knows how many laws there are in the United States. Apparently, no one can count that high.
They’ve been accumulating, of course, for more than 200 years. When federal laws were first codified in 1927, they fit into a single volume. By the 1980s, there were 50 volumes of more than 23,000 pages.
And today? Online sources say that no one knows. The Internal Revenue Code alone, first codified in 1874, contains more than 3.4 million words and, if printed 60 lines to the page, is more than 7,500 pages long. There are about 20,000 laws just governing the use and ownership of guns." - http://www.kowal.com/?q=How-Many-Federal-Laws-Are-There%3F
These laws and regulations are strangling small business startups and entrepreneurs. They are creating a barrier to entry for all but the largest of corporations who can afford them. They are crushing what made this country great, the person with a dream and little or no capital to act on that dream. Here are just some of the laws a small business has to think about today: https://www.sba.gov/starting-business/learn-about-business-laws
. Employment & Labor Law
. Privacy Law
. Workplace safety and Health Law
. Environmental Regulations
. Finance Law
. Advertising and Marketing Law
. Intellectual Property Law
. Business Licenses & Permits
Before you think I'm suggesting we eliminate all government and all laws let me say I am not suggesting that. I am suggesting we have far too many laws and regulations. Maybe before creating any more new laws we need to review the laws/regulations we have to determine if they are truly helping or hampering us? Are they really enforceable? Can we afford to enforce them? All these laws and the bureaucracy to enforce them are not free and drive the costs up.
Lastly, I would suggest fewer laws and regulations would make us freer and drive costs down.
