PRETTY FACES
Crowds of people row on row
In the streets and on the subway
Scurrying about their business
In a hurry late for meetings
Like a raging river the masses flow
Yet as lives pass me by in an instant
Reflected in the faces of each and every one
The pretty ones rise to the top
So easy to spot they spark my imagination
Though my presence remains distant
A joy to wonder about her glamorous life
Wondrous perfection entitles her to happiness
We celebrate them affording every luxury
They are the idols that we worship
They are Goddesses deserving lives free of strife
Beauty is elevated, even celebrated, in our society
Perhaps unwarranted and undeservedly
But a fact it remains as we lust for the idyllic effigies
Vigorously representing our human vitality
And so I automatically kneel before the pretty faces with piety
