Masks (Original Poem)
We often hide our emotions and in many cases lie to ourselves and live behind the mask of a different persona that is not true to who we are. We know that this can only go on for a period of time before manifesting an element of sadness due to the dichotomy between our projected persona and our true being.
Masks
Every day I don my mask
It covers my sorrow and projects the image I wish to cast
My mask is my armor
It protects me from those that seek to see the true emotion I harbor
With a mask I am an actor
I can dream of a pleasant place and live happily ever after
I know it is make believe and the drug administered will soon fade away
But can I be blamed for seeking to escape the sadness just for one day
