Time to caulk windows...and more
Today we got a jump start on caulking windows. The face in the picture is partly that I am excited to caulk and partly that Stacie D made me start before I had any coffee.
We are rapidly wrapping up our project here. We have been working for nearly four years to complete our house. As we are learning to homestead, we had to learn how to manage our time and our money. In our case we got the house very livable, and then we started outside projects. We have done alot of projects including gardens, chickens, rabbits and other out buildings. This was also coupled with the idea that we really were working with nothing. Well, nothing in the worldly sense. We had the Lord every step of the way. We knew that we would never go without...and we haven't.
What we are currently doing
We are currently finishing the inside of the house. On Thanksgiving we took our first hot shower...inside. Stacie D is working on texturing walls, priming and painting. I am trimming windows, kitchen shelves, kitchen counter and sink, and flooring. We call this the "take money" projects. I am also cutting firewood to sell, doing hire out carpentry, knife making for sale, and blogging 😉. We call this the "make money" projects. Outside of both of these we have the " no money" projects. These would be homestead clean up, personal firewood, animal care, and helping others. All of these things take our time, so we also have to navigate how our time is used.
About homesteading
I am sure I have talked about this before, and surely it will be talked about again. As we left the city and ventured into the wild there was a major disconnect. It is very easy to go to work and clock in and out. At the end of the week you get a paycheck. You split that paycheck into a hundred pieces and pay all of the different life utilities. Everything you need is not far away, and reasonably easy to get. We quickly learned about the freedom of being a modern pioneer. We were able to cut and trim any tree we wanted. We built the house we wanted where we wanted. Lets be honest, just walking outside and peeing really makes you feel free. The only issue was that all of the things we were used to weren't there. There was a power pole and a well...but how do we make them work and get it in the house....us. We fixed the well. A new tank/valves and after it was tested we dug the trench and plumbed it in. We had the power company put a meter in so we could access the electricity, and then we dug a trench and ran the wire into the house. We also learned early on that the sky is the limit and we are only bound by our own imagination...and finances haha.
On the move
With all of the work that we have done and are going to do we are trying to create an amazing homestead. We have told a few people so here goes....We are going to sell our homestead in the spring and attempt to start a new homestead in Northern Wisconsin!!
We are hoping to finish the house, clean up the property and become internet superstars. Thank you for joining us and helping us to achieve our goals with your support. Feel free to resteem our perspective to your followers. Or start following. We look forward to your upvotes, comments and general encouragement!!

I am going to caulk and seal the gaps between in wood and window to help with heat loss and paint.

When boards are ripped to size sometimes there is a big of uneven cut. The caulk will fill this and make it unnoticable.

Sometimes if the trim doesn't quite lay right there can be a larger gap. This too will be filled.

I like your "take money" projects.. And yes peeing outside makes me feel free too!
After all that work you will sell and start over? That is very courageous!
Lots of luck to you guys as Internet Superstars for everything!!!!
Yeah, it has been a lot of work and very worth it. We learned alot here. There are alot of people that dream of homesteading and maybe can't do what we have...and this might give them the chance. I create everyday. We create our reality each day (everyone does). This property is a creation, and not my identity. Not to mention Stacie D said she would love me no matter what, even if we lived in a van down by the river! 🙃
I'm with you completely on creating reality! Ain't nothin wrong with living in a van by the river! Steem on brother...
Thanks @senorcoconut, life is short...and it is good!
P.s. even one person commenting on our perspective makes us feel like super stars! Haha😂
Well thanks!
Be careful jumping with a hole in your foot. Mmm... speaking of caulk.
Haha well played @tedgoodwin well played...
I am curious (I know curiosity killed the cat) why move to northern Wisconsin? If my memory serves me correct, it is cold in winter...
Some of the why is..why not. We really love the cold and the snow. Since we have lived in southern Missouri it never seems to get real cold. We are hoping to move to a climate that we have never lived in before and learn how to not only survive but to thrive!
That sounds cool. Have you any idea where? Or are you like us when we moved south, we landed and then looked for a place.
Well kinda. We are going to try to take a visit and narrow it down from there. We are thinking north central Wi.
