How do we know what is "true" about our "reality"

Today I call into question the very truth of our reality. How do we know what is "true" and how do we know it is best to build our reality with. Seems simply enough haha.

When it comes down to what the very fabric or reality is, we are shown that it is all waves of energy. That everything we see is a form of that energy. So we naturally see something and say that it is true, but how do we know.

The information, or data that we take in comes from somewhere. We can say that it is from another person. We can say that it is science. We can say that it has been tested and reviewed and determined that it is true...I guess the results of the test could turn out how they expected them too using the tools and theory that they applied.

Do we form our reality from what we consider to be true, which ultimately comes from another source. Do we form our reality from a personal experience. Do we even have to debate what truth is, or is that more of a survival chakra thing. Is it possible that if we become more enlightened and our energy moves into upper chakras that we just don't worry about what others view as real? I'm leaning toward this one!
