All Work, but alittle play too!

When it comes to life, there is alot of work to be done. I like to remember the balance of it all, and take a minute to just be. Today was a beautiful day to really get some things done. The sun has been shining all day, and it is a nice day to wear a cool flannel.

It seems like the day has flown by, but at the same time it feels like it has been such a long day. Almost like I can't even remember what I did early this morning. Nope, I know what I did...I ran Charlotte ( my chainsaw). Yesterday afternoon/even we had a tornado come through this area, and it really left alot of debris. On our walk this morning we got to see alot of broken off or uprooted trees. So I started with yard clean up, which is always better with a chainsaw!

Since I had her out I thought I would head on down to the neighbors house to do some cutting too. There was an issue with the way that they septic was draining out to the road. So they had someone come and look at it, and it turns out that they had a bunch of tree roots running through it. They had a friend come over and cut off two trees that were growing through the drain pipe, but they didn't cut them low enough. So I nubbed them down to a reasonable height.

Once I was all finished up with the chainsaw work, I switched to fencing. I found a big roll of woven wire fence on the back of that other property. It had been rolled up next to the fence line and just left there. So I got to do alot of pulling and cutting and finally wrestled that mess out of there. It is some sweet fence though. It is just about two and a half feet tall, but it will work perfectly around the garden. The dogs have been running off of the deck and through the garden. They are hitting the plants and messing up our deep mulch layers. This should help keep them at bay, and keep Stacie D (@freedomtowrite) from shankin' one of them haha. While I was there, I also got to play with a turtle that I found!

The day carried on with more work, odds and ends type stuff. The house we are in has some pretty messed up drip edges.... the area where the shingles hang off of the roof. Some of the boards were put on in a very difficult position and it cause alot of rotting. So the trim boards were rotting out and falling down. It wasn't really a functional issue, but it looks like there is a new roof on there so the leak should be fixed. As long as there is no additional water coming through, it should all be fine..I hope haha. Any way I replaced 32 feet of this trim.

I help hold it up on the punky boards I used some liquid nail, and some larger diameter screws. I ran a bead of glue right into the V of the trip and squished it all up in there. The screws were only 3/4 inches long so they didn't go up through anything important. I pre drilled a small hole to prevent the wood from splitting, and then screwed them all up. I think there might only be a couple of sketchy places. For the most part it really took care of the issue. To be honest though, in other parts it was like putting lipstick on a pig. It will definitely need a bigger replacement and repair later.

So that is what is happening today here on this urban homestead/bug out spot. Every day seems to throw something new at us. Yesterday was that tornado, today was repairing, and it is hard to guess what tomorrow might bring. Stay tuned!
