A Look Inside #40: Commitment
Yesterday was crazy busy, and we cut so much firewood. On the down side, I didn't get my daily vlog made! I have committed to this challenge and I intend to vlog everyday for a year.
As I was winding down last night and thinking about how I missed my vlog, it got me thinking about commitment. Not just mine, but everyone's. Do we all have a lack of commitment toward things, more than we ever have? I think yes.
Years ago I worked for a large company and I had to take alot leadership classes for different things. One of the things that I learned about was employee retention. It said that used to someone would work 30 years and get a gold watch, and now people are working a company for an average of 3 years. Shoot, that was 7 years ago. I can't imagine what the statistics are now.
We as a people used to be able to see something through, and now a days we seems to just do what feels good. Sometimes life isn't just about what feels good, I mean it helps, but it is often about more than that.
I was talking with a friend that was explaining to me how their 19 year old son is "dating", but it wasn't any sort of dating that I had ever heard of. There were groups of males and females that would hang out. Then they would just pair up for a "moment" and then come back together. Then they would pair up for a "moment" with someone else. There was no sense of commitment to anyone or anything.
I'm not about judging anyone for their choices in life, I am just using other's decisions to make my point. We seem to not be committing to anything. I suppose it is to each their own, but how do we actually get anything done? When there is a project that needs to be completed, how can you see it through without commitment.
Life is full of choices that we can make everyday. As for me I am going to see some things through. There are alot of irons in the fire, and crap, I hope I can see them all through.
