Grieving the loss of an expectation

This seems like a confusing idea, but follow me on this.

Have you ever thought about when a situation changes abruptly why you are actually upset. Is it because of what is happening or could it be the expectation that you have set that are now not going to happen.

Maybe it is a relationship, maybe it is the vision you jave for your kids future. Then one day ..BOOM...something happens. Sometimes little things but sometimes big things, and now the whole thing has changed.

When you get upset and are trting to sort through "everything that went wrong", maybe it is just the reaction to new data. Maybe you are actually upset because of the expectations you had set for that situation.
