The Diary Game: 12/11/2022 | Unscheduled Internet Downtime

Introduction

It's the weekend but a lot of things happened differently this Saturday. It's a pleasure welcoming you to my diary article today as I walk through my day, the changes, events missed, and other stuff I participated in for the day.

No Football Session

My Saturday has always been a day I utilize for playing football but recently there have been some changes especially when I joined a Church football team in my town as such I have the opportunity to play the game on both Thursday and Friday evenings and then Saturday morning. There won't be Saturday football today for some reasons, well, I guess the two days of playing sessions must have covered up for that.

About 2 weeks ago, I visited a bank in my town where I coincidentally met with one of the daughters of my former landlord. It's been a long time since I saw her so I was happy to meet her again. In the middle of our discussion, she informed me that she would be getting married on the 12th of November, which is today. Our football training session on Saturdays ends by noon, while the wedding service starts by 10:00.

If I really want to attend the wedding program, it's not advisable to be in the training because I may end up not being able to attend. Would I be able to attend the wedding again? I'm not sure, remembering we are having a meet up for Nigeria Steemians, I don't think so.

The wedding service is happening at a Catholic church and the last time I attended one from the same family, it took long hours. As such, I resolved to stay home for the weekend and I began the day with laundry after performing curation from my account.

The method utilized to get these clothes washed was hand-washing and about an hour later, I was done. I navigated my way to the kitchen and got my breakfast prepared, bath, and ate the breakfast (quite early than usual today, lol).

It only took me a few minutes to rest after the meal before I started writing an article to be submitted in the contest, "A Day Without Internet", little did I know there would be an uncomfortable event later (I will discuss this later). I eventually completed the article, published and interacted with other articles.

Internet Failure

Barely some minutes after I had commented on some articles on the platform, around noon, I realized that pages are taking forever to load, it was an extremely slow connection and it even got worse that some Apps on my device are not connecting. It was long hours of internet instability and around 14:00, I started studying via a video tutorial on my PC and picked up my device again around 15:30 in preparation for the meet up.

The network failure persists, at this point I connected with a friend of mine via phone call to ask if he was experiencing the same which came positive (while some also confirmed it on the WhatsApp group). At that point, it appears it was a nationwide issue associated with the popular network provider (MTN). Unfortunately, I was unable to get hold of another network provider (one that would have been a good alternative) after I had failed to retrieve/upgrade the line some time ago after it was damaged during the process of cutting it into a nano sim card size.

I nearly suggest we move the meet up to WhatsApp because the App was working fine despite the network issues but I'm afraid the information may not go around early enough, especially for people who had fixed their minds on the channel included on the announcement article. Well, it's a pleasure to learn that the meet up was successful at the end of the day.

Gas Refill

After 1 hr one trying to connect to the meet up and no breakthrough, I was bored and restless as such I deem it fit to step out of the house. And I utilize that moment to get my gas cylinder refilled after I noticed it was almost running out.

I refilled 3kg of the cooking gas which cost 2,300 NGN (19 STEEM) but I was delayed a bit at the station. It was a bank transfer that I utilized for the payment while the boy had to contact his boss who was not around, to confirm the receipt of payment, quite funny but I'm used to that each time I visit the station.

I got back home around 18:00 and realized the meet up had ended, this was shared via the Steem Naija Friends WhatsApp group.

I checked my internet and everything seems working after long hours of disappointment. I utilized that time to reply to some comments on Steemit before I switched to the crypto trading platform after not being able to see the market behavior during the internet instability period. I spent the rest of the day studying because I seems agile for the night then I called it a day around 23:00.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it was a day that my productivity online was affected a bit due to a sudden Internet failure that lasted for many hours of the day, I think it was close to 6 hrs. The downtime was utilized to get some things done while the pending activities were resumed after the Internet was fully restored. Thanks for sparing some time to read through this today.
