The catch-22 of "valuable" posts

in #steemit8 years ago

You have a few options when you make a post. Each has its own pros and cons attached to it.

If I make posts targeted at the small community we have here, based on what seems to be the trending interests, it should be the best chance to earn some quick income. But, the site will not grow as fast as all the content is aimed at the current groups interests. This is a good option for the short-term, but maybe not the long-run.

If I make posts that have decent content that may in the future do well in google search rankings, this will help the site grow much bigger. It will bring lots of new people here, which in turn should increase the value of the current steem power I hold. The problem with this option is most of the posts may just get overlooked by the current community.

It seems like a toss-up, everyone wants to earn quickly. But if we want to grow we also need to target new audiences. The way steemit is built, it should dominate the search rankings when it has a much wider range of topics.

Over time we'll see a shift in the dynamics, I believe, because if we see sites like reddit for example, there's a lot of power in the conversations themselves, rather than the initial post. We haven't yet developed this aspect as more people are focused on "content creation" and voting to compete for the $$$.

There are always solutions 46 and 89 to catch-22, as well as serendipity.

Most people who read Steem post are already on Steem. The person who read Steem post and aren't already on Steem have been lead here mostly by us.
