So its mothers day, well in the Roman Catholic church at least and I just wanted to appreciate the most amazing woman I've ever known, my mother.

She passed away a couple of years ago but I can still hear her words, "Don't do this", "Don't do that", " Treat women right", "Always respect your elders". My old man always told me that family was all that mattered, and the way my mom lived her life was proof of that, so here's to mothers all around the world, here's to the women who stay awake all night worrying about us, the women that cooked for us, bathed us and kept us clean, here's to you mom!!!
Just in case you're wondering, mothers day actually dates back to the time of the greek and roman empires when they celebrated the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. Christians eventually developed a similar celebration called mothering Sunday which fell on the fourth Sunday during Lent. At this time, the Christians would return to the main church in their area/district for a special service.
Eventually a more secular approach was adopted by the Americans in the early 1900s and on Mothers day children would gift their mothers flowers.
Mothers day is also celebrated in different ways around the world and it is often country specific. For example:
In Thailand, Mothers day is celebrated on the birth day of the current queen. Right now the Queen of Thailand - Queen Sirikit's birthday is in August so mothers day is celebrated in August.
In Ethiopia mothers day is part of the Antrosht celebration, which is a general celebration of motherhood. People gather together to sing songs, and it always happens during Fall.
Mothers day is celebrated in different ways in 40+ countries all over the world. It may be celebrated differently, but it always centers around appreciating mothers, so even if its late, find your mom and give her a hug, she deserves it.
