BAD TO THE BONE!

in #story9 years ago (edited)

When I was just seven years old I started using school notebooks as diaries. Every day I would draw an image on one page and alongside it I would write a poem. By the time I turned nine, I was producing poetry that disturbed my mother because it was apocalyptic and predicted a world on the lines of Orwell's 1984 (which I had read by then).
She took the books I had carefully compiled to the school headmaster and he, in turn showed them to the Education Authority who immediately sent my mother an appointment for me to attend a psychiatrist.
His report, which was circulated to my parents and the school, showed that I had an IQ of 141 at age nine years.
The school put me up a year, but that was not adequate so the local education authority permitted me to sit the 11+ exam early and I also took an entry exam into Frances Bardsley High School for Girls.
Meanwhile I asked repeatedly for my books of poetry and images to be returned to me.
They never were.
Many years later, in the early 80s my husband was interviewed by MI5 under suspicion of being an IRA sympathiser due to family connections.
The interviewing officers brought out a huge trolley full of files and they were mostly about me.
The books I had written as a child were there along with details of every campaign I had been involved with until then.
Apparently there were some cracking photos in the file and my husband asked for copies saying "You have better photos of my wife than I do!" His request was denied! lol
