Malabi or Israeli milk pudding

in #food8 years ago

Hey, hey Steemian,

I said it and I say it again: I am a big fan of Ottolenghi, this great chef, who is from Israel. Therefore, I love the Israeli food. On my shopping list for Berlin I had: za'tar, harrisa paste, rose water and other goodies which are difficult to find in Bucharest.
I am not such a big fan of pudding, but my mind kept saying "Give it a chance!" And it was right, it's very light and delicious, the perfect dessert after eating too much.

Ingredients
PUDDING
500 ml milk
40 g cornstarch
80 g sugar
walnuts/pistachio for garnish
I used also pomegranate and some cinnamon
SYRUP
40 g sugar
40 ml water
1 bay leaf

  1. Put the milk and 40 g of sugar to heat.
  2. Mix the sugar with cornstarch in another bowl.
  3. When the milk is almost boiling, pour the cornstarch and stir continuously. The mixture will begin to thicken in about 5-8 minutes.
  4. Remove from the store and pour into glasses. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  5. Meanwhile, mix the water with sugar. Add the bay leaf and leave it for a couple of hours.
  6. Sprinkle some magic over the pudding: bay syrup, walnuts, pomegranate and cinnamon!
