Tea and Glowstick (Original Photography)

Howdy!

Now, this was fun! These images were taken with glowstick liquid as the only light source.

MM201820180913-EOS_6977.jpgMmmmm... Radiation!
To create these shots, I used a wire clipper to carefully cut the end off of the glowstick, after breaking the inner tube. There wasn't really that much glow goo inside, so I mixed it with water and found that it mixed about as well as oil. The goo is heavier than water, too, so it sat in the bottom of the cup. On a whim, I added dish soap and gave it a good stir. That worked! It does separate fairly quickly, but stays mixed long enough for a couple 30-second exposures.

When I was in my teens, I cut open a glowstick with a pocket knife, which sent the glowing liquid shooting into my eyes. It's non-toxic, but it did sting a little and my eyes and face were glowing. It turns out that, far from allowing one to see in the dark, glowstick in the eye makes you see a green haze.

Whoa! Super creative and loved the story too!!!

Thanks! I wore safety glasses this time!

lol @ the green haze
Congrats @ the pictures. A crazy idea, but well executed, and damn the results look good!!! I think mesmerizing is a good word here :-)

Thanks! It was fun, but messy. I sort of want to try again with different colors and more glowstick goo.

Sounds like a great plan! Looking forward to seeing the results of that!

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

What a brilliant idea @fotosdenada. If I had a camera I'd definitely have a go at that! 😁

Thanks! That glowing liquid offers some interesting possibilities. :-)

Experimental photography . Great!
