The Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary

in #ghana5 years ago (edited)

It was difficult to depart from the Mole National Park after two days. But it wasn't impossible. We knew that our time with Ghana's wildlife was not yet finished. In fact, our very next excursion would bring us into even closer contact with the animals of Ghana: a visit to the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, where monkeys live in absolute harmony with the community.

Who hasn't dreamed of being in a place where ultra-cute monkeys are so comfortable with humans that they'll approach you without fear, and even sit on your shoulder? The first time this happened to me at the sanctuary, I felt something like a purring, muted click in my heart -- the kind of sensation you only experience when a deeply-held childhood wish has suddenly come true. The mona monkeys of Boabeng-Fiema have learned to trust people, and are absolutely cool hanging out with us. Or sitting on top of us.

The ones I have seen in Northern India usually closer just because they are looking for food. These ones that you mentioned, look very friendly. Also, It probably depends on how the locals treat these monkeys, definitely another great experience Ghana provided to you :)

I really enjoyed reading through this amazing article.

Excellent article

Thank you so much for your support!!!

I've heard of this sanctuary man. Really lovely place to be. Hard for Ghanaians to travel, so a lot of us haven't seen it personally.

If you're in Kumasi it's easy enough to get there by trotro and shared taxis and it was very affordable to get there. It wasn't easy and it will take some time until you're there but it's totally worth it.

From the photos, definitely worth it. I'm in Accra, and not sure I can come in a days journey

hey @for91days, your post is really cool! how happy must have been that child who, after 34 years, managed to see his dream come true. also because we are used to seeing these animals (and many others unfortunately) only locked up in the cages of some zoos, invecepoter to see them so close and stay in their own environment must be beautiful. and what wonderful colors they have !! you have made some fabulous photos, they will be wonderful memories forever. what time of year did you go? it was very hot?
congratulations on your vote cuerie and thanks for sharing

We encountered Monkeys before (mostly in Sri Linka) but never were surrounded by so many friendly ones. Thank you so much for your comment and your compliment. We were there in March and yes, it was super hot :)

Wow....thas a cool stuff on steemit, a place that is exclusive for monkeys, If not for this article I would never come to know or probably never believe there exists such a place. In our place too in many tourist locations there are monkeys, mostly considered to be nuisance which completely contradicts with your blog. One of the reason why I loved this blog.

I added one picture snapped from recent trip to a waterfall location, there were so many monkeys few of them trying to snatch chips cover, biscuit and even the fruit juice packets or whatever eating stuffs from tourist's hand. Once they successful they will run away but they never hurts anyone that is a fact though.

Pictures look great and you might spent a lot of time for itself looking from the number of snaps you included. By the way is there only one type of monkeys there, as it looks like all are similar. Asking just out of curiosity and also how many employees are there to look after, properly identify, their foods etc.

And finally the cemetery, it surprised me to the core. Thanks a lot for this blog..

Yes, in Sri Lanka people treated monkey not nice and I think this reflects back how the animals behave towards humans. There are two monkeys in the sanctuary, look again through the images ... the black and white ones are also there but much much more shy :)

Thank you so much for this cute monkey picture!

Yes, in Sri Lanka people treated monkey not nice

But you know in India Hindus worship a monkey as their God as per the myth, Did you heard about Hanuman. Especially in north one could find gigantic sized idol in many religious locations as big as 41 meters the tallest.

Sorry, I couldn't distinguish the difference between those two as just scrolled it over.

My fault for posting so many monkey pictures :)

Oh...No need to think like that.....All those photos have its own charmness....It was good see those innocent faces of the creatures which is believing to from where human being transformed into....
