The McPlant - Please let there be more!
As a student and lover of fast foods, the McPlant burger is a welcome addition to the McDonald’s menu (the clue was in the name).
The burger comes with burger buns (obviously), a plant-based patty (co-developed with Beyond Meat), vegan sandwich sauce, the usual sauces, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a vegan alternative to cheese.
I’m glad that the app (and store) have a customising feature, I’m not a fan of tomatoes so got rid of them. However, I would like the option to add extra cheese and perhaps add regular cheese or vegan cheese.
As vegan / veggie alternatives to burgers go, I would rate this one as one of the best. The texture of the patty isn’t weird, I’ve had a few go way too realistic to the point it’s worrisome or some that are just a bit dry.
I think that they should expand their plant-based range as much as possible, and would love it to be as affordable as the 99p cheeseburger. For example, they could use the plant-based patty in more burgers - an obvious and easy one. I think a big mac would be great! They could also introduce it into the breakfast menu, for example having the patty as a replacement for the sausage - super easy to do and would expand the range so much more for vegetarian and vegan customers!
There is a great lack of choice for plant-based diets on the menu, especially for breakfast. While I’m on the topic - very sad they got rid of bagels (although they didn’t have a plant-based alternative to the sausage so maybe it was for the best).
The burger comes to £3.89 / $4.86 which is pricey compared to the 99p cheeseburger, but not as expensive as ones from Burger King or other fast food places.
