Storm Clouds Rising At Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach has perfect weather and we rarely see storms. All during the winter, swimming and surfing are just part of the day. The beach is usually in the mid to High 70's in the winter and hardly a cloud in the sky. In the spring it climbs into the 80's with a gentle breeze. Most days you can park on the beach and take a short ride up the beach on the sand, if that is your desire. If all that was not enough, there is an amazing historic Boardwalk complete with a nearby Lagoon Water Park and a roller coaster ride that is amazing.

But today, the storm clouds were rolling in. The winds had picked up and were already gusting as the beach was being evacuated and closed. As this rare storm moved in, it was a delight to watch. Because of the reef that protects Daytona from the storms, it is rare to really get a nice one to photograph. But as the clouds got darker, and the winds picked up even more, the rain began to fall. We were having one of those rare spring storms. To make matters even more interesting, it was rummered that there was a tornado in the area. That was never confirmed.

As the storm intensified, the winds became so strong you could hardly stand still. But knowing Florida, as we did, we knew that things would get darker and the waves would gather up steam. Then as quickly as it all started, the beach would re-open, and soon it would be crowed and busy. The clouds would begin to clear out and the light would shine through. It was spring in Daytona Beach, and if you missed the storm, it was over.
