Flipstar reviews --- "A prayer before dawn"

The movie is based on the true story of Billy Moore.

A boxer, who ends up in Thailands most notorious prison and joins the Muay Thai program to fight for his freedom.

While the story sounds kind of lame, it was written by real events and the movie does a great job of brining you this isolated feeling back to your couch

This is not a usual Hollywood underdog movie.

It is somewhat slow.

It is very harsh and unsettling.

It is more realistic and dirty

The acting is done very well, from the lead actor Joe Cole, to the extras, many of them are ex-convicts, making it look very real.

The movie expresses itself more through pictures than talking and often you will hear thai and notice there are no subtitles. This intenives the feeling of isolation because as long as you dont speak thai, you will just understand as much as a westerner in a thai prison.

We see Billy on his trip of self destruction and getting deeper into the drug hell and it is often hard to cheer for him, especially in the first half, but his fight for pure survival, redemption and meaning somehow keeps some sympathy alive.

The movie reminds me a lot of Warrior"

Which one paper should not be as good as it is.

The fighting is done well but it never gets really out of hand it is more underlying the harsh world the movie is coming from.

If your attention span is big enough to watch a movie without explosions every 4 minutes I highly recomned you check out this trip to hell but not quite back...
