Moss Menagerie From Around The Farm
The mid-winter melt has exposed the moss to the sun.
I went for a walk around the property today and got some nice shots of the lush mosses that are nicely exposed. With the leaves of the undergrowth gone it allows me a chance to actually see the moss that is normally hidden under the canopy. This first image is my favorite from today with the wild shaped fungus growing from the moss.
The largest of the rocks on the property happens to be next to the creek so it gets completely coated in moss every year. Even after tearing masses of the moss of the rock, by spring of the next year it is all grown back. This is one of the vertical faces that faces east and looks at the tunnel and creek.
The variety of moss just on the rock is quite large. I have counted 14 different shaped mosses just on the 10ft by 10ft rock. Whether they are actually different from each other is something I don't know.
This is a really cool bit of moss. It is starting to grow along the downed tree branch and has a very fern like look to it.
This maple tree has a mass of moss that is growing up the base of it. Most of the trees near the creek have an amount of moss covering their bark, some far more than others. This one is on the lesser side but it is in an area that will allow it to rapidly increase it's size.
This mid winter melt has been quite nice and we are even in the mid 40s F. The creek is full and the snow is melting around the yard thankfully. Our yard turns into a straight up ice rink each winter so these melts are very handy.

Great pictures @flemingfarm! Makes me want to take my shoes off and wiggle my toes in it.
Bit chilly but it is soft. Some of the moss is still frozen despite warm air temps though, but it is in the shade by the creek where the air is cooler.
I love moss and I love macrophotos of moss even more! Thanks for sharing!
