The interior decoration developed by some designers and architects is changing drastically thanks to new technologies to create the best based on products whose exploitation does not negatively impact the environment, this is the case of the next invention called The coral, technically is a micro farm to harvest seaweed for decorative purposes. The place where such a great idea arose is in Rhode Island thanks to the imagination of design student Hyunseok An, created a prototype of domestic seaweed harvest to decorate interiors, an educational and visually attractive way and thus decorate the interiors in a completely different way than we were used to using resins, plastics, wood elements whose manufacture and processing has destroyed part of our environment. With The coral we will be able to include nature in our daily life.
I could describe this invention as a real bio reactor in grid form to mount on any wall, so you can decorate the interior of a room in a room or the living room of a house radically changing its appearance. The algae are visible thanks to the fact that their containers are totally transparent, so the design from the beginning will have different vibrations and rhythms due to the change of colors of the algae that change color as they grow.
It is necessary to remember that algae are some of the best food for humanity that unfortunately does not consume due to a nutritional model imposed by different corporations that have many centuries dominating the food business. This was one of the arguments most supported by Hyunseok An who is currently studying a master in industrial design, with his invention hopes to raise awareness that algae are beneficial to our health and environment, in past publications I have mentioned some inventions that use algae to purify polluted air.
The growth of algae is very fast, does not need much care, in addition if we compare the algae with a common terrestrial plant the algae offer 10 times more carbon absorption than common plants. To make it clearer the functioning of The Coral is composed of panels in the form of squares where they can fit more than 16,000 cells with only two grams of culture cells. Every two weeks users of the system can also decorate their interiors, eat algae, and continue to enjoy a beautiful design, with several shades of green due to the birth of new algae.
The Coral has a fortnightly cycle, each cell takes two weeks to grow again this means that you could eat algae every day, in addition to eating the algae have cosmetic uses so you could make base creams for the face, or prepare delicious stews with vegetables, the uses are multiple, can also be purely decorative for those users who do not even dare to eat this wonder declared by the United Nations in 1974 as the ideal food for mankind.
