My Solar Power Over Christmas
So here are some picture slides of my solar power status over the last few days. I have been in dump mode everyday this week. That means I made more power than I can store or use. That is always a plus :)
The pictures you see here were all taken before 12pm everyday between December 24-th-28th. By at least 11am each day I have more power than I need or can use. This is the only meter I have so I can't provide anything more than what it shares. I have 500watts of solar and 600watts of wind turbine and 400ah of batteries. This powers my entire tiny home cabin.

it would seem to me that heating water would always be a good place to 'dump'.
Excellent idea! Hot water for showers, laundry and all sorts of good stuff.
you would need a really big system to get good hot water.
Any kind of warm water would be good! I don't like cold showers! I get lukewarm now, so that is better than I was getting before!
well then you can go to Missouri wind and solar and get some cool 12vdc hot water heating coils for water tanks and give it a try :) they run fairly cheap.
Missouri is a long way fro me to travel. I live in Central America!
its a company that sells online. you dont need to physically go there. just google missouri wind and solar for their website.
Okay, Thanks.
it makes for a great dump but you would never really make any hot water worthy of bathing etc... a better dump would be a room heater element in winter or a secondary backup battery supply in summer. imo.
how bout an air conditioner in summer?
or
This
it can be done but it still takes a lot of solar to do so. cooling and heating is nearly impossible efficiently with solar. what you could do is create a swamp cooler system then power that with solar pretty easily. basically running spring water from source through an insulated water line to a tank where it flows through a copper tubing coiled inside the tank then back to spring. large fan at entry forcing air to compress in tank to suck coolness from water in copper tubing. then it blows out a smaller opening opposite end from fan into insulated venting tubes to house. keep the whole system under house in cool space. run spring water to tank using insulated line. and run overflow line back to spring head. basically runs itself through system. solar only needed for the fan to force air flow. hope that makes sense. works great. ground spring water is normally around 40*F give or take naturally.
the point I'm trying to make
is that you have EXTRA Amps to get RID of.
efficiency is not important.
otherwise it will be wasted.
yes but you can destroy your system by burning it up using things it cannot support. so simply adding whatever to your dump load if it is not strong enough to operate it efficiently then you risk destroying it. like trying to run something off 12vdc that requires 110vac. it doesn't work. you need to determine the amount you have to dump and match it to something that will compliment that amount.
I guess you didn't even look at the links I posted...
oh.
well.
yes peltiers are nice but not very effective really for cooling homes they take lots of power for little return. not worth the money or effort to me. you would get very little cooling of air from that thing and would be more efficient use of power simply running a fan. my friend on youtube known as thunderfoot has done some educational videos explaining why it isnt worth it.
For me at the moment it's the opposite, I've been running out of juice tonight, the last 3 days were crap and I forgot to turn off the fridge at night luckily the geni came to the rescue!
ive been there. a good geni is a must.
