Our Marrymoon Travels #1 - Why Marrymoon?
In 2014 Collins and I got married! It was magical and one of a kind, however we purposefully did not have our family or most of our friends there.
Why the 'Marrymoon' versus a traditional wedding? Soon after the proposal we began planning our wedding. We knew we wanted to have it around Christmas and started picking out colors, decorations, locations, etc. But when we started making our original guest list, our first go-through had well over 700 people! Knowing there’s no way we could have or want a wedding that large, we starting to narrow down the attendance…..but how do we cut out so many individuals who are near & dear to our hearts?! We even considered having a wedding with strictly only family, but ours are both large and that list was more than 125, and then we would be leaving off friends that were like family. We soon came to the conclusion that if we did a traditional wedding, it would be all or nothing. And since we couldn’t do the all, we went the way of nothing.
But ‘nothing’ became such an amazing and fulfilling choice for us!
For our “Marrymoon” we each brought our 2 closest friends to commemorate and celebrate our wedding: Crystal and Dom – Leah’s best friend and her husband; Tony and Breck – Collins’ two best friends. Tony's fiance Yaryna met up with us from Ukraine.
In mid-December 2014, we traveled to Europe and everyone meet up with us in Rome. We chose Rome for our wedding location because we wanted to have a traditional Catholic ceremony and it was the easiest place in Europe to coordinate. Then the group spent Christmas in Prague and New Years Eve in Barcelona.
I'll be posting pictures and stories from our travels and hope to inspire your next trip!
One last note: The name “Marrymoon” came from Collins’ brother Gregg…..it’s perfect since the trip was a combination of us getting married and our honeymoon!
