Thailand Train Third Class Coach Seating
This is one of the third class coaches on the train I spent 18 hours on last week. I took this train from Bangkok to Hat Yai, Thailand but I was in a second class sleeper car. I am so grateful I did not stay in the seats for all this time. My trip took another 30 hours after I got off this train. At least I stretched out on a comfortable bed for part of this long trip.
The seats are very comfortable if you are only on them for a short trip. But for any overnight trip, it is better to get the sleeper. The difference in price for this long trip was:
- sleeper car, bottom bunk - $ 25 usd
- 3rd class seats - $ 15 usd
Very well worth it, in my opinion.
The yellow shirt that says “Dad” is in English and refers to the last King of Thailand who passed away almost two years ago. These shirts were for sale on his birthday right before his passing and are treasured by all who have them. Thai people did refer to that King as “Dad” as he had been King for longer than most people had been alive.
