Saints Plan To Use TWO Quarterbacks This Sunday
As many of you have already read, starting quarterback Drew Brees is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks. He tore a ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand this past week. This Sunday will only be the SECOND time Drew Brees has been sidelined due to injury since he entered the league back in 2001.
The stat that I just mentioned is unheard of for any starting quarterback in the NFL.
Just two days ago Brees had surgery in Los Angeles. He will be staying in the city for rehab for at least the next few days.
Almost immediately after the surgery, the quarterback posted a picture of his cast on Instagram...
Underneath the picture reads:
"Complete...successful surgery. This is my attempt at giving everyone a thumbs-up."
Now what's next for the Saints is the topic for today and it is quite an intriguing topic. For those of you who can remember, head coach Sean Payton called an onside kick in the beginning of the second half of the Super Bowl. It threw their opponent (the Indianapolis Colts) COMPLETELY off guard and the Saints retrieved the ball around the 50 yard line.
For those that can't remember the play, here it is...
The point that I am trying to make is that Sean Payton is definitely one thing... unconventional. He will do whatever it takes to win the game. Which is why he has now declared TWO starting quarterbacks for this upcoming Sunday. These quartebacks are Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill.
Bridgewater has been a starting quarterback before (for the Minnesota Vikings) so the name is most likely familiar to most of you out there. However, Taysom Hill may be the most exciting to watch. Just recently Sean Payton has used the quarterback as a tight end, running back and wide receiver. In addition, he is a fixture on special teams.
Hill has been described by many pundits as the "Younger Steve Young." Young was a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers back in the 90's.
If your a fan of the NFL you really do not want to miss the game this upcoming Sunday. In my entire recollection of watching football, I have never heard of any coach stating that their will be TWO starting quarterbacks. Thus, you could be watching history in the making on that day.
Here is a map to see if you are able to watch the game on September 22nd (against the Seahawks). If you are in a state that is colored 'red' than you can watch the game for free. It starts at 4:25pm EST.
There is no word as of yet if Drew Brees is planning on attending.
I'm now going to have to pencil some time in tomorrow to sit down for the start of this!
It should be a GREAT game!
Taysom Hill reminds me of Marshawn Lynch when he goes into "Beast Mode."
IS it going to be two QBs at the same time on the field?
If so less offensive line to protect them. or running back...
Explain please.
Thanks
By Sean Payton declaring that their are two starting quarterbacks it does 2 things. One of them is positive and one of them is negative.
Positive: The Seattle Seahawks will have to prepare for TWO quarterbacks this week. The defense for the Seahawks will try to find the strengths (or tendencies) of each quarterback and try to eliminate those strengths. The hard part now for the Seahawks is that they have to study TWO quarterbacks.
Negative: Neither quarterback will be properly "warmed-up" until the end of the first quarter/start of the second quarter. A quarterback typically plays the entire game so they can eventually get their "groove."
Finally, only one of the quarterbacks (Taysom Hill or Teddy Bridgewater) will be on the field 80% of the time.
Taysom Hill is also a tight-end, wide-receiver, and a running-back.
I'm looking forward if that's effective.
I remembered one time I saw a team having a three point guard strat. Damn was quick and two bigmen are very effective inside.
I hope that works well!
Whoa, that's big news. Love Sean Payton. He's gonna try and stitch together a season here and give Brees a chance at making another run in the playoffs.
It will definitely be interesting. After reading this blog, I am getting more enthusiastic than before.
Ughh... I'm watching this game right now. I'll be honest. I picked Seahawks to win this game in a close one but so far the Saints proving me a fool for fading them. Saints blowing out the Seahawks by almost two touchdowns (13 points) so far. I'm going to need a comeback in the second half...
