Does the ‘4% rule’ for retirement work if you retire early?

in #retirement5 years ago

Finanaical planners often recommend the "4% Rule" for retirees.

This is a belief that retirees should pull out and live on 4% of their savings. The rest should remain invested to carry one through retirement.

One Reddit users asked if this idea was applicable to those who retired early. With a longer time frame and a workforce that looks more like Europe, will that be enough. The concern is the United States markets will not do as well going forward with the changing in demographics.

The 4% idea is a minimum guideline. It should also work just as well for younger people who retire. Any concerns could be alleviated by a part time job to help offset the dipping into the core savings.
