Needlework from Turkey

Since my husband is a professor and has students from many lands, he receives gifts from around the world. One of his students brought back some lovely gifts for me from Turkey--gifts I thought the needleworker community would enjoy.

This lovely scarf is a large square for use as a shawl or a head covering. It is beautifully edged in needle lace made from colored thread:

Needle lace is made by essentially embroidering in thin air. I have not tried it, preferring the relative ease of crocheted or knitted lace. This scarf could inspire me to try, though.

I also got a pair of knitted slippers done in two colors:

I have done a lot of knitting, of course, but it is also a joy to be given something knit by another--in this case, some kindred spirit more than an ocean away from my home.

I love how students from abroad are so appreciative of their teachers and so thoughtful with their personal gifts,

es un hermoso detalle, me encantan este tipo de cosas de otros paises. y las zapatillas se ven calorosas.
