Kalinger is the fort of Bundelkhand region of central India. Kalindar is located in Banda of Uttar Pradesh state of India, the city is located near World Heritage Site and the cities of the temples Khajuraho. These hills have served a number of empires governing Bundelkhand, including Chandila empire of Rajputs of 10th century and Solanki of Rewa. There are many temples in the fort complex, which are related to the Gupta Empire of the third and fifth century.

According to 16th-century historians, the city of Kalinjar was founded by Kedar Raja in the 7th century. But during this time of Chandela rulers, this fort was recognized. According to the legends of the time of Chadela, this fort was built by Chandela ruler. Chandela was also given the title of "kalanjaradhipati", which reflects his importance associated with the fort.

In the historical background, it has been used in many wars and attacks. Many empires, Hindu Rajo and Muslim rulers have fought for it and thus the fort started coming from one empire to another under the empire. But no other ruler except Chandila has been able to rule it for a long time.

In 1023 Mahmud Ghazni invaded the fort. Babur was the only commander of the Mughal attack in history who captured the fort in 1526. It is also the same place where Sher Shah Suri died in 1545.

In 1812 the British army invaded Bundelkhand. Finally, in the long lasting war, the British took possession of the fort. When the British captured Kalinjar, all the rights from the fort were handed over to the new British authorities, who had damaged the fort. But today we can see the fort and the fort is kept open for tourists.

Legends say that after the churning, Hindu Lord Shiva had poisoned his poison and after drinking it his throat was blue. That is why they are also known as Nilkanth. That is why the temple of Lord Shiva in Kaligar is known as Nilkanth. From then on, that mountain is called a holy place. Surrounded by natural monuments, this place is an ideal place to meditate on peace and meditation.
