Why Some Dogs Have Black Tongues?
Contrary to popular belief a black spot on a dog's tongue it doesn’t mean he is a Chow mix. While it is true that a black tongue is one of the most well known physical traits of a Chow Chow, it’s not a trait that’s unique to the breed. Labradors, Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and over 35 other breeds are also known to have spots on their tongues. No matter what kind of dog breed, some dogs develop increased pigmentation on many parts of the body including the tongue. The dark areas on your dog's tongue are just additional deposits of pigmentation. Just like freckles or birthmarks on humans.

BORK!
Well call me superstitious but I believe in Chows with less than solid black mouthes are mixed breeds. Their parents maybe Chows but some where down the line, they have something else in their gens. I bought my Chow from a neighbor who raised Chows, her mouth was solid black just like her parents and their parents. Now with all this said, I don't think it takes away from the animal. Chows are very interesting animals...very one owner type dogs. I had to keep mine put up when people would come around or she would tear into them. The only people she let around was only my closest friends who she knew as a pup as well.
That is a cool fact to know. Thanka for sharing it. Something You usually dont
