Luke 6 39-45

39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. 41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Dear friends

During the days that Jesus shared His teachings He did it with parables. The evangelist Luke brings us some of these significant parables which with simple examples opens our understanding.

Here in this fragment of the gospel, Luke shares four of these parables with us. With the first, it makes us see that we can not obtain a material and spiritual benefit by following a person who is blind or alien to the word of God. If we do, we will certainly fall into a hole.

Our teacher must be Christ. Therefore, by obeying, we will fulfill by similarity the works of the master Jesus Christ and thus the word will be fully realized: "In the image and likeness (Genesis 1;26" . Engaged in this life as in a deep night, we really need an infallible and precise guide. Now the best guide is certainly not the blind man who according to the Scripture leads another blind man to guide him towards the precipice (Matthew 15:14); it is, on the other hand, Christ, whose gaze penetrates to the depths of hearts (Jeremiah 17:20; Romans 8:27). And since there can be no light that does not illuminate or an object in motion that does not move, nor there is a lover who do not love, in the same way there can not be a good that is not a benefit and that does not lead to salvation.

Now we must ask ourselves: Who is or who are our models? Who are we still learning from? So Jesus when he teaches us: "The disciple is not above his teacher, but if he lets himself be formed, he will resemble his teacher." This verse speaks of the teacher who is blind, hypocritical. The question repeats itself: "From whom do we learn?"

Jesus also models us in what to do to judge others without first assessing our life. So he teaches us "And why do you pay attention to the fluff your brother has in one eye, if you are not aware of the beam you have in yours?" "Why do you judge when the Master does not judge?" The Lord has not come to the world to judge the world (John 12:47) but to save it, understanding the meaning we can conclude: "If I do not judge, do not judge yourself that you are my disciple. You may be guilty of more serious transgressions than the one you judge."

So with this parable tells us Jesus "How can you say to your brother:" Brother, let me take the fluff you have in your eye ", if you do not see the beam in yours? Hypocrite, first remove the beam from your own eye so that you can see clearly, and then you will remove the fluff from your brother's eye." Jesus convinces us with irrefutable arguments of not wanting to judge others and of scrutinizing our own hearts.

Jesus when he speaks to us with the parable "There is no good tree that bears bad fruit, nor a bad tree that bears good fruit. Each tree is known for its fruits. No figs are picked from the thorns or grapes are removed from the brambles." It confirms that the works will demonstrate the quality of the believer, gives us a lesson in virtue that teaches us that we can not achieve fertility in what is sterile or expect a harvest abundant of a land that has not been worked in. To each one the earth gives the fruit in the dimension that has worked it.

We must be careful with our preaching because to carry the gospel message we must let ourselves be guided by the teacher and pursue holiness. Thus Jesus speaks to us: "the good man brings out good things from the treasure he has in his heart, while the bad man from his evil fund brings out bad things." The mouth speaks of what the heart is full of. In front of the Scripture the difference between the interested listener and the obedient disciple will be manifested very soon (James 1:22-25).

God calls us to a life worthy of the call we have received. Pray that each day we will integrate into His plan of salvation. Let us ask for His grace so that we can be messengers of peace and joy. For our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
