Crash Bandicoot 1 feels like Mega Man 1

Jumping through this bridge is a hell certainly comparable to the earliest Mega Man games. Why? Because it is testing and pushing level gimmicks all over the place.
It wasn't developer studio Naughty Dog's first AAA game, but it was their first AAA 3D platformer in an era where 3D was still being introduced to consoles. Noone had a commercial success recipe yet.

Level design in both Crash 1 and MM 1 is incredibly short most of the time, but each of them introduce a new or refined mechanic. As the adventure progresses, the same level tricks show up in new shapes, ever more seemingly impossible to beat.
One little jump slightly off and you're back at the checkpoint. Learn it, practice it, and only when you finally completely master the damn thing will you be able to proceed to the next level.

Maybe this is a way of identifying developer studios worth following. If their attempts any new genres are solid but hardcore, an extremely promising future lies ahead.

that bridge section is famous and is known as one of the most difficult platforming sections ever. That drove me bananas and it something i never passed. It is what i would describe as too hard.
It ranks right up there with some of the floating medusa head sections of early Castelvania games and pretty much any part of Ninja Gaiden where there was a chance to get knocked off the side.
When I was a teen, this is where I quit. I'm glad I've actually overcome it now!
The joy of these platformers is like the joy of Fighting games. The more you play, the more skillful you'll be and feel the payoff. Whether I have time for them, depends on the game and my the other things I do in my life.
I've been taking some time to enjoy them again. I feel like I'm a gamer again. Weird.
