A new era of remakes starts with Halo Collection

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

The AAA industry made game remakes an important part of them. Now they've taken them to the next level in the Halo Collection.

One engine, many games

As far as I'm aware, this idea started with Crash Bandicoot (correct me if I'm wrong), in which the developers got PlayStation One games in just one package. Yo just launch the game and pick which one you want to play as if they were simply chapters.

Releasing the whole collection as one single standalone brought down advertisement and publishing costs, while also pleasing fans due to the ease of being able to play everything they wanted from the get-go. No more waiting for DLCs or completely separate releases.

It started a trend. Shenmue I & II, Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy followed. Some didn't, like the newest remakes of Age of Empires in they're "Definitive Edition". But Halo took it a step further.

Because their franchise is huge, they wouldn't release everything at once. That would be too expensive and risky, specially because some players aren't interested in all of the Halo universe. So they're adding it one game at a time. But one keyword changes everything.

Multiplayer

Because it's essentially one huge game spawning everything there is out there, players will be able to use a combination of whatever they please! All of the maps, modes and weapons (along with many new additions) will be available in the customizeable online experience.

This means the playerbase won't be segmented throughout various communities. Everyone can play everything. Halo: The Master Chief Collection will likely become the number one game for FPS fans on PC. And it probably won't doom you as a session-based game.

Available on Steam, Xbox and the Windows 10 store on December 3 of this year. Join the hype, wishlist it now. Let all of your friends know you will be there.

Didn't MegaMan collection predate the Crash Bandicoot one?

Yes, but those aren't remakes, just ports.

Oh, yeah... Forgot to think about it.

!BEER

Hmm. I didn't know AoE 2 had a new version. Even tho you say it bombed I need to check it out :p

They're great, but AoE1 def edition is a separate purchase from AoE2 def edition.

Ohh interesting and a bit annoying hehe
