Addiction: Way in; Way Out.
Source
Addiction isn’t a new word.
It is common but most people actually do not fully understand its meaning.
According to this, addiction is having a strong need or desire to have something or perform an activity.
This means your could either be addicted to something, someone or a particular activity without even knowing you are.
It could be a drug, most common are pain killers and sleep inducers, or a particular ingredient found in certain foods.
Some addictions are common, they include; sex addicts, nicotine addicts, food addicts, alcohol addicts, their phones, social media and the likes.
So many people suffer from addictions without being aware.
Such addictions are harder to come out of because before they realize they are addicts, it is close to being late.
I’ve seen other forms of addictions which are common but not so well known as addictions. Some of them include, sugar addiction (I am guilty of this 😔), addiction to inhalers, Face pinching, eating of fingernails, fashion among others.
Way in:
Most people who become addicts usually fall into such habits accidentally.
For drugs addicts, most people take such drugs for a particular problem they are trying to solve, and then discover they get this feeling of euphoria from using such drugs, this makes them continue with it and then they become ‘hooked’.
The same thing goes for some particular activity which you start off doing probably out of boredom, for a particular issue, imitation, or peer influence among others.
Way out:
The first step in overcoming an addiction acceptance.
You have to accept the fact that you are an addict. Ask yourself, is there something I am doing that I cannot stop.
Trust me, you might think, oh I do this every minute and if I want to stop, I can easily do so. But then, when you eventually try to stop, you’ll find you can’t.
So the first step is admitting that you’re a addict and you need help.
Next step is seeking for help. Talking about it helps. This is where these ‘meetings’ come in.
when you find out there are people who are concerned about your addiction and would cheer at any progress you make towards trying to get rid of it, you are encouraged to do more in order to be completely free.
For those who cannot seem to find any meeting around to attend, you could decide to blog about your progress report.
This could earn you support from your audience.
If you do it on steemit, you even get to earn money from it (omo steemit is bae oo)
Next step is making conscious effort to stop. This could be reducing intake gradually, if you are addicted to something you consume, keeping tabs on yourself, like marking calendar dates to tell the days or even hours you stayed Off your addiction.
You could also decide to seek professional help.
These and other conscious efforts can help in dealing with an addiction.
