One Year of Julian Assange, Ecuadorian Citizen Actively Being Denied "Universal Access to Information and Communication Technologies"

in #news5 years ago

Well gang as reported by @elizbethleavos, it has been one year since journalist Julian Assange's internet access was cut. It would be interesting to see what Assange's twitter or other activities would be be stating were he to have internet access. Perhaps more would follow Catalonian politics, or other glimpses into the deep state, like murdering and covering up Reuters journalists.

Interestingly, Assange was granted Ecuadorian citizenship. So one's gotta wonder how his rights of a citizen in Ecuador is being treated on Ecuadorian soil?

Interesting Sections of 2008 Ecuadorian Constitution

"Article 16. All persons, individually or collectively, have the right to:
  1. Free, intercultural, inclusive, diverse and participatory communication in all spheres of social interaction, by any means or form, in their own language and with their own symbols.

  2. Universal access to information and communication technologies.

....
CHAPTER SIX
Rights to freedom

  1. The right to voice one’s opinion and express one’s thinking freely and in all of its forms and manifestations. "

So it's an interesting time right now. Just as extra constitutional claims to power are in Venezuela so too does Ecuador shred it's own binding document. It is an interesting time as the US government is now still caging Chelsea Manning trying to force speech in a supposedly free speech society. Manning is to be punished for letting us know about the things they do with your money in your name but to the benefit of a select few.

As the Mueller report found no evidence of collusion, and not sufficient evidence for obstruction, it seems the chances of Trump not completing his term seem to have dropped significantly. Trump inundated by nonsense 25th amendment threats and the threat of impeachment since taking office may have not been able to engage in policies without worrying the repercussions from the fake news and the DC slime. Perhaps as more comes out, the importance of publishing organizations that let us know what we pay for and about the people who want to rule us may become obvious.

How great would it be if Trump pardoned Assange? And others like Snowden and Manning? A great world might require protecting journalists and whistleblowers that let us know what the hell they are making us pay for. Such a course of events seemed much less likely in the Overton Window when evidenceless collusion dillusion was the noise that destroyed the public sphere for the past 2 years or more. Now that the squakin heads can't totally fill up their schedules with Collusion Delusion, there is a chance for people to come together and discuss the real issues of their day.

So it Goes.
