Consistency – Secret Success Story
It goes without saying that the best you can suggest someone is to ask them to develop a habit of consistency. It can be anything starting from doing exercise or yoga for 10 mins or reading two pages of a book on a daily basis, depends on the likeness of the individual. But the sole purpose of this is to maintaining the consistency so that it can be a part of your thinking which in the end is going to drive positive and spectacular results by covering lack of talent and prize focus approach.
I believe that small things are done again and again bring the major changes in our life. Allow me to discuss some gem features of consistency with you in order to prove the power of consistency.
1. Momentum
Momentum by definition is “An object in motion stays in motion.” So rather than walking 5km in one day start with one or 2km and increase gradually by doing this in continuity i.e. consistently. This is why we’re better off practising an instrument for 15 minutes every day than we are an hour once a week.
By staying consistent we catch motion and that is the key to getting momentum which is the successful ingredient for any startup. As well said by someone, “Go slow but smooth as smooth is fast.”
2. Willpower
When you do things that you decide i.e. which you put on the to-do list, you actually achieve your goals. Achievement is a great feeling that boosts your willpower and you come with more energy to accomplish your goals. The point to note here is that the goals should be achievable i.e. not too big that you lose interest in achieving them or you take the task too easy as it is a piece of cake. When you struggle and make an achievement actually you are crediting your personal willpower account, which can be used later for doing more tough tasks.
3. Identity
Most of the time, you never have to make note of the things you are doing on daily basis. It is a part of you and you know that completing this or that is not going to be a problem for you. The only reason is that it has become a part of you by doing it consistently. What you do become a part of you after shifting from a line on your to-do list.
4. Skill Level
Playing badminton with my seniors had never been a great experience for me. Watching myself struggling while reading the shots and also missing on the coordination side. Though I was sharp enough to beat them in different ways of life i.e. fitness, knowledge but skill part is what was missing the most while playing badminton. I am not discussing the absorption rate here i.e. the IQ but the consistency of doing what is required again n again.
“When we go through some struggle to learn a new instrument, learn a new language, learn a new behaviour, we then forge a new neural pathway. The more we work on that new behaviour and move through discomfort, the myelination process occurs. Think about an electrical wire that has a coating on it. Myelin takes that new behaviour and neural pathway and takes it from dial-up to broadband”- Christine Comaford
After 3 months now I am more confident and I see much improvement in my game which has also been recognized by the senior players. So by playing consistently and not skipping, I have achieved the skill level required to be a part of the group.
5. Perfection Discipline
One thing you need to understand without a single doubt in your mind is that you are not superman or wonder woman. What I am trying to say here that there are chances of missing a thing or doing things badly or going against as planned but that doesn’t mean that you stop trying and leave it as it is. This is the point that is going to create the difference between the success and the failure. There are ups and downs in life, count them a part of your journey and keep travelling. Keep your momentum, be consistent and let the life bring opportunities in your lap.
If I take a look back and summarize my life, I am going to conclude that the difference I have made and those who didn’t make around me, the only point to count is Consistency.

I like the momentum explanations here, creating good habits from nothing just by doing something little each day until it becomes something you want more and more of. I will use this to learn how to play guitar (my new challenge to myself) :D ... I should also use this to practice writing every day too, something i fail at miserably atm... you got me thinking and planning that's for sure :D
Thanks for reminding me about guitar, I have a crush on this as I believe learning new thing boosts your mental strength and processing power. Good to know that you are going to try the momentum methor, hope to hear some good results.
