Family motto: Part 4 Together

in #family8 years ago

The first three words in our motto Simplify, Explore and Learn would not mean the same thing without the fourth and final word: Together. We want to simplify, explore and learn together as a family. We want to spend most of our time together. Simplifying life as a family looks different than if I were to pursue a simple life on my own. What, where and how I would explore would all be different if I did not have kids. What I would choose to learn and how I would go about learning it would also be very different if I was alone. We are a family, and we do life together!

We are Lindströms on the Road!

A few years ago, before we started to travel, and our life was no different than most other peoples, we began to feel frustration over how little time we got together as a family. We also saw other families that had even less time together with both parents working full time. We also noticed how common it was for parents to talk about their kids as obligations to be managed rather than people they wanted to spend time with. We wanted something different and knew that we needed to make different choices to get a different life. Being able to spend much more time together as a family was a major motivation for becoming a full time traveling family. Today we often get comments from people saying that they would love to travel like we do but if they had to be together as a family in a small space like we live in they would kill each other after a while. We actually like being this close together. Being together, and doing things together actually brings us even closer.

Where ever we go, we go together!

The major thing in our life that keeps us from being together is the need to work. We have to work in order to afford our (very cheap) life of travel. But to fulfill this fourth part of our motto we have decided to work as little as possible while still making enough to support the life we want. This is something that we are working on and we are still not in a place where our income is greater than our expenses. We're not there yet, but I think that we will be very soon and I believe that we will reach our goal income while still working less than 20 hours per week each.

I have heard so many people talk about missing their children growing up. I'm not missing it and will do my very best to keep it that way until all three kids have moved out.

Thanks for following the journey of me and my family
as we travel and roadschool our kids around the USA.
