Der Windenschwärmer ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Schwärmer (Sphingidae). Als Wanderfalter kann er sehr große Entfernungen zurück legen. Der Falter fliegt aus Afrika und Asien zu uns nach Deutschland ein. Beeindruckend seine Flügelspannweite von bis zu 130 mm und sein langer Saugrüssel, mit dem er tief in jede Blüte eindringen kann. Mit einer Spitzengeschwindigkeit von bis zu 100 km/h gehört er zu den schnellsten Schmetterlingen auf der Welt. Der Windenschwärmer ist nachtaktiv und ruht tagsüber an Bäumen oder Steinen gut getarnt. Die sehr variabel gefärbte Raupe ernährt sich von Ackerwinde (Convolvulus arvensis) und erreicht eine stattliche Größe von bis zu 12 cm. Die ausgewachsene Raupe verpuppt sich am Boden in einer Erdhöhle. In Deutschland kann die Puppe den harten Winter nicht überstehen und stirbt. Nur wenn die zweite Generation noch schlüpft und die Reise in den Süden übersteht, ist der Fortbestand gesichert.

The convolvulus Hawk-moth is a moth of the family of (Sphingidae). As a migratory moth it can travel very long distances. The moth fly in from Africa and Asia to Germany. Impressive its wingspan of up to 130 mm and its long proboscis with which it can penetrate deep into every flower. With a top speed of up to 100 km/h it is one of the fastest moth in the world. The moth is night active and rests well camouflaged on trees or stones during the day. The very variably colored caterpillar feeds on field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) and reaches a stately size of up to 12 cm. The adult caterpillar pupates on the ground in a burrow. In Germany the pupa cannot survive the hard winter and dies. Only if the second generation still hatches and survives the journey to the south, the continuance is secured.

Zur Raupe muss ich noch eine Geschichte erzählen. Die Aufnahme ist bei meinem Freund Ritschi im Garten entstanden. Das Wetter war schlecht und wir waren mit unseren Fotos nicht zufrieden. Es bot sich einfach kein Hintergrund an, der uns beiden zugesagt hätte. Dann kam mir die zündende Idee. Ritschis Frau Rosi hatte einen Spüllappen zum trocken auf die Wäscheleine gehängt. Da war er unser perfekter Hintergrund. Rosi beäugte uns mit großer Skepsis und bemerkte kopfschüttelnd, "ihr zwei habt doch einen an der Waffel!" Sie hat recht behalten, wenn ich mir die Aufnahme genauer betrachte. 😀😁😂🤣

I have to tell a story about the caterpillar. The photo was taken with my friend Ritschi in the garden. The weather was bad and we were not satisfied with our photos. There was simply no background that would have been suitable for both of us. Then the brilliant idea came to me. Ritschis wife Rosi had hung a dishcloth to dry on the clothesline. There he was our perfect background. Rosi looked at us with great skepticism and noticed shaking his head that "you two are a bit crazy already!" She was right when I take a closer look at the picture. 😀😁😂🤣
