How to Teach Democracy in the Classroom?
Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives
The democratic system is regarded as the best system to apply today. Not only in the state but but democracy system also in various aspects of life. Good democracy makes life more comfortable. With democracy no one feels depressed because all have the right to voice their aspirations. By one stipulation, his freedom is limited by the freedom of others. Therefore the practice of democracy must be taught to children or students.
So, how to teach students the democracy in the classroom? Here are some things to consider in educating democracy in the classroom.
Students are Free to Argument
Teacher is not a dictator in the classroom. All students have the right to vote and give an opinion. That voice of freedom can arise when students give in a problem. For example in the classroom a discussion is being held, then all students have a thing to respond to the discussion. Teachers should not prevent students from expressing their opinions. Let him speak out and if what he says is wrong then the teacher should tell the truth. No need to cut what he said but wait for it to finish and give an explanation at the end of the discussion.
Students Choose Their Own Class Leader
One of the biggest mistakes teachers in the classroom is to choose directly the class leader by pointing. This is not good in children's education. The class leader should be selected by the students in the their own class. Teachers may only be facilitators while eligible voters are class members. This is one way in educating children to be able to democracy well.
Students Can Learn Anything
Classroom should be the best place to learn democracy. One of the things that really reflects democracy is freedom in doing anything. Students should have the freedom to learn whatever they like. Do not force students to be good at math but in fact he has a great interest in the art. Let children learn what they love because when the child learns what he likes he will be an expert in that field.
Let the Students Deny
Well, this is very rarely done by the teacher. A teacher tends not to allow his students to refute explanations. Though discussing each other in the classroom can make the class better. This can happen with the opinion of students. For example when the teacher explains about a matter, there are students who denied it so the teacher should not silence him but listen to him. It was then then discussing each other.
Today, the democratic system is considered as the best system. With democracy all will feel fair. with no democracy that is very powerful because all have the same rights as human beings. With democracy the power system is in the people. In the decor there is no such thing as absolute power. Thus no party uses excess power. Democracy prevents the satisfaction of power abuse. Currently the democratic system is good enough because that system must be taught to children to become a culture in shaping civilization.
