Getting Ready for One More Brew on a Stormy Day
So today we had a special moment in the Netherlands, probably all Dutch people were well aware that we were hit with winds of up to 140km per hour, and all hell broke loose all over the place..
Fortunately for me I live close enough to work to be able to be safe taking the tram. The wind wasn't as bad in Rotterdam city center as I expected, although I did hear a lot of noise from the 12th floor of my apartment.
I managed to capture a nice shot below of a mini tornado of leaves as the wind spun up on the corner of the Rabobank building.
To be quite honest I was a bit disappointed, I didn't see anyone's bike flying up in the air, nobody getting dragged all over the floor or cars flipping upside down. I know this is a good thing after all, but when you hear that your town is going to be hit with a major event, you want to see it! But it all seemed to be happening else where. Oh well.
To get myself more excited about things, I went ahead and fixed a date for my next brew: This Saturday 20th. I have finally grown enough balls to try my own recipe, but it will be inspired by a very very delicious beer I like - the Hop & Liefde from de Molen.
The recipe is simple, but fine tuning it was very difficult, after all, I had to get it adjusted (on paper) for my Easybrew 30. Not an easy task for a Noob:
-Pilsen and Caramel Malts
-Saaz bitter hops and Citra dry hop
-EBC 23 and 57 EBU
-4.8 Abv (1.046 OG - 1.010 FG)
For this to work, I'm getting the help of a very very awesome app - Beersmith 2. This lets me configure basically anything on the recipe and makes a lot of important calculations for me. It would be nearly impossible to work out all the ingredients in the right quantities if it weren't for this app. Here is what my recipe looks like on the app:
So far I only have the mobile version as I'm still learning the inner works, but soon enough I will shell out the hefty USD 27.50 for the Desktop version, which will give me even more control over the variables and set ups.
Anyway I look forward to trying to clone this beer on Saturday, and I have high hopes. I will be joined by my friend @exyle so this should make for some epic Steem posting, if anything, there will be a LOT of beer drinking.
Catch you all tomorrow.
Cheers!
