What is going on to these bright students?

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

The youth are the hope of our future.

Most of the bright and brilliant youth are can be found at the University of the Philippines. One of them can be a promising leader of tomorrow.

The University even has this "Oblation " - as its iconic symbol.

It depicts a man facing upward with arms outstretched, symbolizing selfless offering of oneself to his country.

No wonder their students are admired of this brave act of "oblation run"

They excel in their intellectual capacity and thinking.

What's going on with their choices in life?

Just lately, President Duterte was feed up to these students whose freedom of speech seems already abused.
And to walkout’ of classes just to join rally seems normal to these youth.

President Rodrigo Duterte has had enough with the students from the University of the Philippines who chose to ‘walkout’ of their classes than to study.

He even warned that he would replace the students who joined the ‘walkout’ protest with Lumads who wanted a good education.

My OPINIONS:

Something suspicious!

I feel something strange from these students. Though we know we are in a democratic country where freedom and the right to be heard are alive, it seems these going out from classes to rally outside the street is no longer healthy!

I think there is something wrong!
What's going on?

These student's are brilliant. Why can't they choose to focus on their study for now and work on their dreams?

Wasted Dream

These youth are being used!!!

Remember the late Josephine Anne Lapira?

Josephine Anne Lapira

She was a University of the Philippines Manila student. She died at 22, during an encounter between New People’s Army members and government forces in Batangas province.

According to the news Lapira was a former biochemistry student from Marikina City, and wanted to be a medical doctor but decided to take the road less traveled.

Half Truth

I think I now started to agree on this!

Critics stereotyped the University of the Philippines as a ‘training grounds for the communists rebels’.

If this is true? This is tragedy to the Philippines for these youth are our future leaders!..

Any way only "God knows."

And I believe Philippines will become great again!

Have a nice day everyone!

Tax was wasted... mine wasted as well. Freedom of speech? Then so be it .. I have my freedom to express my thoughts on this matter... let them go ... walk out! The hell I care! They dont deserve the tax of the 16million Filipinos. They don't deserve my tax at all. Now my question, I am tax exempted, do I have the right now? Hahaha

hahahaha....exempted na pud tas yawyaw ani sir 😅

Hello! I would have to disagree on your sentiments. First of all, the oblation run is not done by just anyone in UP. The oblation run is an annual event of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and participants of said event are only members of the fraternity not just in UP but other chapters as well. Now, the oblation run is not just some blatant display of manhood nor some brave act for nothing. During the oblation run, the fratmen carry with them placards of issues they want the government to address, a sign of protest and appeal to certain political issues.

Secondly, yes, it seems that the President has been fed up with all the protests going on. But actually, protests are not only being held at UP. There are others too who condemn certain acts of the administration and government. To be honest, the 'walkout' is not to be literally taken, most of the time, the students get incentives from joining rallies from their professors. The UP culture firmly believes that learning can not only be done inside the four walls of the classroom. Students aren't to be confined if you want them to learn. Let me quote this 'UP culture is to be socially aware and to be critical. Honor and excellence should transcend academics.' And UP students don't fail to actually deliver. Because they know pretty well that their education come from the taxes of the people who actually pay their taxes right. And UP students haven't only been critical to Duterte, haven't you seen their active protests on PNoy, GMA, ERAP, Marcos and other administrations?

We at UP could only hope to just 'focus on our studies and work for our dreams.' Ideally, this can only be possible if we have a perfect government. But we don't. That is why somebody has to step up so that we can have all of our lives, not just ours, improved a little.

And here I quote somebody again, “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue for.”

Have a nice day, Ma'am. 😊

thanks for the info @saiyanide
"to agree and disagree " ....a clear manifestation of thinking minds. And for me this is very healthy .

Indeed. Thank you also for acknowledging my thoughts. As much as it is possible, we do encourage intellectual discussion rather than aimless banter. Mabuhay!
