This cool little device, complete with a signature controller, is the now defunct "OnLive" gaming package. And I must say, the concept was brilliant! Streaming games via their sleek console, straight to your television set! No hardware necessary on your side. Just plug in the controller (of which their were two ports should you wish to partake in two player titles), connect to the Internet, fire it up and away you go! Back in 2015, at the London EGX which is one of the biggest gaming events in Europe, the company were giving these away by the bucket-load. Yes, for free! God knows how much that marketing campaign must have set them back. So, I managed to pick up two. You know, just in case. As you can see, this was the "just in case" one.

The GUI was fantastic. It had a nifty instant replay feature, favourites lists, weekly bargains, the whole nine yards. And maybe best of all, you could trial each game for a limited period of time to see if it was worth a "rent". That's the thing. You weren't owning the game outright. Kind of like play-as-you-go. And that's fine! I mean, look at Netflix now. Or Spotify. The world revolves around the idea of disposable media so "if" this was released now, I feel possibly things may have fared a lot better for them. But back then, even a mere three and a half years ago, the technological landscape was very different to our present day. They struggled through for about a year before succumbing to defeat. A crying shame as I used to play it regularly and thought they executed the functionality of the product extremely well.

Fast forward to today and we have the behemoth known as Nvidia about to push "GeForce Now". Gaming without the need for expensive hardware and streaming straight to your PC. Upon reading this, I couldn't help but feel as wave of empathy for OnLive. A revolutionary concept, delivered into us gamer's lives just that little bit too soon...

ahhh this is awesome! I knew this time will come, so all you have to do is own the pad, then you can play on the net once there is internet and tv, wow wow...amazing, you like games too much my man, we should have a gaming weekend together, if @rea wont mind lol

I know, mate! I really loved the OnLive platform. What a shame things didn't work out. Check out some vids of YouTube to see it in action, And yes, of course, a gaming session would be great! :)

Many dead and gone consoles come to mind... Remember when they seemingly were coming out by the month almost in the early nineties? Turbo Graffix 64, Sega 32x.. There was one called Jaguar ... I remember the red slash marks coming through the screen lol. Go rent a game at the local video store with your bud, stay up all night playing.. Those were the days..

Wow!. This is an awesome console. Technology has really gone far man, all those multiple function are embedded into a portable and handy device.

wow this device will refresh old memories of childhood

Wow. Awesome write-up. Very interesting... Amazing how crucial timing can be... as some have said: "it's everything." And now Nvidia, a graphics card maker is doing this--I'm surprised someone like Microsoft hadn't earlier-- go figure!!
