Homemade Deodorant DIY!
Why did I start making my own deodorant? Well, there are a few reasons.
- I was tired of my shirts having a deodorant funk or musk after a long day
- aluminum is found is most deodorants and I would prefer not to have that seeping into my body
- DIY is fun, easy, and cheap so why not?!
Ingredients:
- baking soda
- coconut oil*
- cornstarch
What else you'll need
*oh how I love you coconut oil, I eat you, I drink you, I brush my teeth with you, I rinse with you...you are truly amazing. Ok my ode to coconut oil is over for now. let me get back to it
Steps:
Are you ready for this simplicity?
Step 1:
Step 2:
*after mixing the dry ingredients together add 6 Tbsp of coconut oil and mix everything together
Step 3
Storage:
You can keep this out at room temperature. In the summer it's going to be close to a liquid due to coconut oil's low melting point but just give it a stir and you're good to go. During the winter it hardens up, but once again, due to coconut oil's low melting point you can just take a chunk and rub it between your fingers until it warms up (almost instantly).
Great idea!
I am looking for way to stop buying all those expensive commercial health and beauty products. Too many harsh chemicals and additives.
thanks for sharing
This is the way to go! Who needs all those chemicals in your body? Not I! enjoy
Hello egeofthemind,
Excellent eco-recipe that could help many people avoid the proven dangers of Aluminium in sunscreen. Aluminum: a potential pro-oxidant in sunscreens/sunblocks? - NCBI
Out of interest, have you tried Bi-carbonate of Soda instead of Baking powder? They are of course very similar but baking powder has an acidic ingredient for the necessary chemical reaction to take place to make food rise. Cream of tartar (Potassium bitartrate, also known as potassium hydrogen tartrate, with formula KC₄H₅O₆, which is a byproduct of winemaking.) is often used.
I am a huge fan of the work of Dr Sircus who expounds the awesome health benefits of bicarbonate of soda for it's anti cancer properties and more. Check out link below for some of his great wisdom.

Upvoted and resteemed :D
Appreciate the resteem and the extra info here in your comment. Great stuff. This recipe uses baking soda. I've never used baking powder for this. Not sure how that would turn out. I'm all about the PH balance. Soon to come, alkaline water :)
Great I will try this thanks.
hope you like it. Thanks for stopping by
Im sure I will. Im like you, I dont like the idea of rubbing aluminum anywhere on my body. Been using natural deordorants for a few years now.
This is an excellent idea! We are slowly going totally green here on the homestead. I have been looking for a recipe just like this for the past few weeks. We had found an organic deodorant but it was a bit on the pricey side, $12 plus shipping for a 2-ounce container. This recipe is much more user friendly. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing wrong with going green! I am getting there little by little :)
Interesting. I never used deodorant but I don't stink. But the idea of making natural home made might be better for the deodorant users.
Thanks for checking it out even though you don't use it :) actually what's great about this is that the more you use it, the less you actually need :)

I love my coconut deodorant too! Works nice to add in a little essential oils for a great smell as well.
coconut and baking soda surely are amazing!
