Hard Fork 21 is here!
After a small hiccup where the Steem blockchain fail-safe kicked in, it's now up and running smoothly.
The downvote pool is also active:
If you go to steemd.com/@username you can see it.
It's possible now to cast 2,5 x 100% downvote a day separate from the upvote pool.
For the first time in a long time, I downvoted a post on trending last night.
I clearly wasn't the only one because this morning the post looked like this:
Why is this significant?
It will disincentivize people from using bit bots on posts that are not up to snuff to a certain standard.
This in itself should increase trending quality.
And obviously, once bit bot abuse in this way is 'fixed' the downvote curation by users will trickle down to other area's.
Remember that every downvote will put rewards back into the reward pool.
Hopefully ultimately leading to a better distribution of STEEM.

The SPS reward fund is filling up with 10% of the daily inflation of Steem per day.

STEEM price is still around the $0,18 level.
I'm still in accumulation mode when it goes lower.
Markets seem to be waiting for BTC to make a move. Price is converging. Volume declining. Usually signaling a big move to the up or downside.
Let's see.

Morning @exyle. I'm a bit confused since I notice my upvote value on other people's comments has halved. I thought that was curation and was supposed to be going up. I'm clearly not understanding something correctly.
Yesterday, to upvote a comment over the dust threshold I had to upvote a minimum of 35%. This morning that percentage is only giving 0.1c which is below the dust threshold and won't be paid out so is a total waste. 😢
Why have my the values of my upvotes on comments gone down rather than up?
It has to do with the new reward curve. It used to be linear. (1000 SP being worth twice as much as 500SP whenever or wherever (post or comment) the vote was cast).
The reward curve now slopes up slightly first and then turns linear later.
To get initial rewards started you need more SP than before. It's introduced to incentify better curation on posts and combat abuse, but voting on comments has indeed taken a hit because of this.
I have noticed this myself too. I had to increase my vote percentage on comments. I will, therefore, be more selective which one I choose to upvote more than before.
Aw. That's a real bummer. Upvoting good comments is a big part of my "rewarding" strategy.
I'm going to have to totally rethink this then because I'm not going to be able to give many comment upvotes that are above the dust threshold. I may have to stick with upvoting posts since my upvote is more likely to be one of many in that circumstance.
Or I may give up the blogging side completely. Engagement was already down massively and this will only make it worse I think.
I'll see what happens over the next week or so.

For some reason I thought I needed at least 500 SP to be able to give a up vote of at least $0.01 but I am able to do that now with 463 (50 delegated) is that something new or have I been wrong about the SP limit all this time?
I believe what you mean is that you need 500SP to get the 'slider' bar to chose voting percentage.

yeah man. small hiccup. but i was very relaxed yesterday. cause regardless of what drama transpired i have a lot of faith in these developers here. hiccup happened. it was fixed.
let’s move on to new steem. exciting to see where these changes take us.

The communication about the hiccup was great. With so many people involved and invested in this blockchain, it was clear as day to me it would be fixed. The core of Steem is very strong.
Yeah everything definitely seemed cool after the hardfork but we all know there's no hardfork without a drama really and we definitely Saw the outage close to 6 hours I reckon really. However I guess we're here and like you said I think vwe should all continue in the accumulation mode despite any decrease, I'll however look to my downvote pool to also contribute to restoring parity to the reward pool really and well I'm still enjoying the vlog. Beautifully done here.
I checked out the DOA on steempeak - https://steempeak.com/me/proposals lol I can't deal with using a new site. I can already see the trending starting to look a bit different and bid bot bids slowing down or being smaller lol. Interesting times
I’m really concerned about the downvote being a seperate pool I think the system will be abused but let’s wait and see.

Hey @exyle, do you know how the vote strength is calculated for the SPS? Is it the same as for posts or the same as for witnesses?
What I mean is that, if I delegate away my stake, does my SPS vote matter as much as before I delegated my steem power?
