Investing in Steem projects. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I have been on Steem for a long time, relative to its existence.

Besides investing in SP, I also supported several projects over the years.

Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

Zappl was my first investment on Steem. I made my second vlog about it.

I paid $500 back then to acquire 1% of the 42,000 ZAPPL shares.

Later those 'shares' changed to something else (I forgot) and then the development went and now https://zappl.com/ doesn't exists anymore.

But even in the video I say this investment is a risk.

I just moved on.

I also invested in Dporn or Dporn classic somewhere along the lines but they split up at some point and the Bitshares tokens I bought as an investment are trading now for much much lower (almost no volume).

But Dporn is still working on their project so it could still work out in the end but I have considered the investment lost.

Another project I gave attention and time was Dlive, but they gave Steem the finger at some point out of nowhere.

It just happens.

I learn from it, but don't dwell on it.

Luckily there are also moments where it does work out!

This is the latest Market Value of all outstanding Steem Monsters cards, now that's starting to look good!

I have bought cards when the game was much less polished, but working (risk). It seems to be paying off.

I'm already in the plus but I think this one is worth keeping a little longer :)

The team keeps delivering and more and more options to get a decent ROI on owning them are being implemented.

I'm very impressed with Steem Monsters.

Another project that is doing well is Steemhunt! I delegated to them for HUNT tokens.

Their second Initial Exchange offering sold out in 11 SECONDS!

That's another 3 million HUNT tokens bought at $0,02!

Congrats to them!

And of course the latest talk of the town is DrugWars. They changing the reward model/token as they move forward causing some uproar.

They will still be on Steem but will be using a token on another blockchain (I think).

I bought about 350 STEEM into the game to support it and got about 150 STEEM back so far.

I have no idea what the future will be of the game now but t.b.h I never really considered it an investment, I hope they can make it work for everyone involved.

Anyway.

With the popularity of Steem increasing most likely you will get a chance to invest in more and more projects.

Some will be bad and some will be good, it's not always easy to tell.

Some pointers I try to uphold myself:

Investing in the form of delegation for a return in tokens (like Steemhunt) is a pretty good way to go about it, very risk free because you can always take it back.

Also try not to invest in talk. Working projects are usually a little safer.

And even better invest in project with a business model. Some form of revenue model that can fund the project in the future.

Good luck!

I lost a couple of hundred STEEM in the Steemhouse initiative, and more importantly a guy who followed my lead has lost interest in the chain as a result, which bothers me a lot more than the lost money.

I understand. That's a real shame man.

@exyle,
Yeah drugwars runs a ponzi scheme top of a blockchain! That was their mistake and now trying to do a drama to leave out! A smart way to scam pretty cool nah! Anyway if they think to run top of STEEM and introduce a token that support SMT, the problem might be over!

Cheers~

i'm gonna do ok out of my modding, input and video making for steemhunt, chances are when the time is right i'll invest a large chunk of that back in as i build out block-review.com and work hard on reviewhunt and ideahunt, HUNT tokens are the real deal right now ;)

Wish you all the best with your current endeavour man! Keep building.

Great pointers for things to think about when investing in a project👍 I’ve invested in steemmonsters as well and I made a decent return on my investment. I think the same way that you do about when I make an investment. I understand that there’s always some risk involved and that anything could happen. One of the best things I can do is to educate myself on whatever project I invest in to minimize the risk.

I wish I had delegated to Steemhunt a lot sooner than I did. I also wish my account was bigger so I could delegate more significant sums though :) I did delegate to dlike a lot sooner than I did to steemhunt. Dlike has a working product and though I am not quite sure what the future holds for it or what their exact roadmap is, I think it has a lot of potential. There are quite a number of people using it.

I was lucky with Zappl tokens and sold half for some bitshares so at least I got something back but I didn’t have anywhere near the number you had.

Honestly I've been wanting to write a similar post.

Even the most succesful investors will only win like 80% of the time. Put on your big boy pants and get over it. It's not like the drugwars people have exits cammed at this point and paying money into a game to get ahead is supposed to be an investment how?

SteemMonster has been the only project so far that I've made a big upfront investment (Purchased quite a few alpha packs).

SteemHunt I'm happy to just sit back and see what the price does. I think it may dip, but if it takes off to the moon I'll be more than happy to pay 10 cents per token for an awesome project that continues to prove itself rather than risk an upfront investment and nothing pans out (I think steemhunt could be very succesful just using it as an example).

Damn. I also invested $200 in @zappl in the very beginning. I haven’t given it much thought lately but what a disappointment to know they went AWOL.

I was wondering what happened with Zappl awhile ago! That seemed cool like twitter or something! I recently told yabapmatt how great it is with the automated tournaments and also the delegation and converting packs into a token, etc. and he said yes but there is so much more to do. He’s a beast! He gets it done! Steem hunt looks nice, I have to check that out! See you in the battlefield and have a great weekend! 👍👍

Thanks a lot for the insight, loads of projects keep coming up, since you've been here from almost the start of Steem, are you currently guided in your investing in new projects based on your knowledge of the people behind it or on the idea of the project itself?

Yes it certainly places a factor in my investments.
