Was it Ada Lovelace who said, ‘computers can only do as they are instructed”? If that is so, I wonder who programmed this robot to snatch this poor chap, and in his pyjamas too! Talk about a rude awakening!

Still, it’s good to provide work for the working man to do, and by the look of it ol’ tinhead here must have kept the steel industry busy. Look at all them rivets!

There is something charming about this image, and I think it has to do with its mix of futurism and old technology. You have giant man-snatching robots, striding around some dystopian tomorrow, only they look as though they were made out of tin!

That could well be a fatal flaw in their design you know. If the Wizard of Oz taught me anything, it is that tin men need constant lubricating if they are not to seize up.
